As a new user here: how do I find these photos and story? I don't see a link provided with the posts? My family has some old photos of Austins and other areas that show an old dance pavillion on the water at Austin's and the huge rock towers - maybe a "photos" section at this forum would allow us to post these, if possible. Unfortunately, not all my photos are online yet and some are in boxes - ugh.
In my high-school days here (late 70's) we used to have our Homecoming parade through town, ending at Austin's park - the parades consisted of the homecoming floats, the band marched in full regalia, and our Trojan Mascot rode her horse - all this was followed by a bonfire on the beach. We knew how to have fun and spark community interest, lol! Well, I did particpate in the parades, but don't recall actually being allowed to attend the bonfire, if they were allowed to happen - perhaps they were just a pipedream of my classmates
