I think our lack of sensitivity towards violence flowers from the increase of violence in television, movies and video games. Of course, it stems from parenting, as you mentioned. If parents were paying more attention to their children and giving them something better to do than watch television, go to movies and play video games then maybe things would change (though, I am sure, ever so slightly and slowly). People need to belong and they need to survive, two things that seem to be getting harder and harder, these days. We don't seem to really "live" anymore. We need to get back to living and we need to give our children better things to do and be a part of and I believe with that will come respect for themselves and others and the next generation may have a chance for a better future.
