Will this extra power make the grid?

With the declining state of our infrastructure, is it even possible for this project to be effective? I have heard in the past that alot of the geothermal produced power was waisted due to a poor delivery system. The power that is produced sort of "cavitates" until there is such a draw for it to be needed. I do not know how true this is but it would be nice to know for sure. Is there any studies, by someone not affiliated with Calpine or PG&E, that shows how much power is being produced and how much of that actually gets used? If its not being fully used then shouldn't the focus be on getting power to the grid instead of making more that will just be waisted. - cale_page

BECAUSE OUR POPULATION IN COBB IS SMALL

They had an article in the Santa Rosa Press Democrat 2 days ago regaurding the AltaRock Project. It basically ended the article stating(paraphrasing).......
"that it was just a small bunch of Vacation Houses in the Cobb/Anderson Springs area, and if this project
(or Earthquakes) would be happening in Rincon Valley or Santa Rosa, then the Project would be SHUT DOWN"!
So were not considered because were so remote and our population small?
What a SLAP in the face! - BlackMagic

They profit at our peril

That was a 4.0 we felt at Cobb this morning (downsized to 3.8 by the seismologist; does anyone know why the seismologist always adjusts that number down, and never up? Doesn't that suggest they need to recalibrate their instruments?)
AltaRock is putting everyone at risk in order to profit. The only way this type of enterprise should be permitted (if it should be permitted at all) is for the profit to go to the people put at risk (of their lives) and not to the people who risk only their venture capital.
I also object to describing geothermal energy as renewal. Once again energy stored in the planet is being released. This is not renewable (like solar).
Our precious water is being diverted to maintain this new impending energy addiction. This graywater will some day be even more precious than oil, in the not too distant future.
The people of Switzerland were smart enough to throw AltaRock's technology out of the country before they could cause serious damage. Are we too dumb to do differently? - Jeffree

Potential destruction is possible

Well this morning in Cobb we have been rockin and rollin. About 15 minutes ago there was a sizeable quake that shook everything. This is after a smaller one an hour previous. I watched my house shake and a sculpture in the garden sway back and forth. It is in concrete!
Having gone through Loma Prieta, I find it very disturbing that we may encourage more quakes bigger than the one that just happened through a technology that is unpredictable. It is equally disturbing that we have to wait for a quake to cause major damage before the operation is shut down. - Karenturcotte
