HD programming, PEG and media literacy

No, fulfilling federal HD requirements does not affect the programming lineup. Local programming is a function of the local PEG organization which you can choose to be a contributing member of.
PEG is where local content is produced and we have Channel 8 dedicated to local Public, Educational and Government programming. Has nothing at all to do with HD requirements.
If you are interested in increasing local programming or contributing you should get in touch with the local PEG group in Clearlake: http://www.laketv8.com/

That article was likely derived from a press release since there is no name in the byline. Conversely, a 'story' written by LCN staff would typically have the writers name in the byline while contributed info from companies will likely run as 'news reports' or by 'editor' if we did not initiate the article. That is a convention you will see across the news spectrum as well though many corporate papers, including the Lakeport corporate paper, will actually put somebody's name on press releases which we consider a misleading practice.

Hope this is helpful to you,

Just because they are offering more HD channels doesn't mean the content is going to change. I mean, it isn't going to be ANYMORE geared towards our local community as it was before. Remember all those local news shows, sports, educational and artistic programs that were broadcast involving our local community? Oh snap that's right, they NEVER had that.

Thank god for corporate conglomerates keeping our small rural county on it's toes. - Gabandgo
