for pointing out the great unknowns in the auto industry. So many suppliers provide parts not only to Detroit but also to all the manufacturers of foreign cars in the Southern States and at the NUMI plant in Fremont. For those championing bankruptcy it is these little guys that will get the fuzzy end of the lollipop - think they can handle it? None of us can. The little suppliers employ people who have mortgages, need clothes, supplies, groceries etc and pump their money into their local economies. I cannot understand giving Wall Street that manufactured NOTHING but Toxic Debt a no stings bail out and raking the Auto industry over the coals. Yeah, I\'m partial - theres a 72 Elkie, 74 Silverado, 01 Silverado and 06 HHR sitting outside. I even went to a Toyota dealership for the newest one, still came home with a GM. Detroit retooled for WWII, retooled to produce the MRAPS and I hope it retools to make all vehicles so that the HHR is the crappiest fuel economy vehicle they produce. Lamar, good gravy dude, stop watching Faux News and start reading and thinking on your own! The \'mutual collaboration\' you describe is essentially a monopoly - you get your mandatory Microsoft but get to choose the system you want it on. Big Whoop. - Donna Christopher

If all the financial gears that make this economy work suddenly grind to a halt, everyone gets hurt. No one is really exempt. The problem with the mortgage crisis is that certain people allowed fraud to enter the system and corrupt it. According to Fox News, this problem has happened six times before. It just was never this huge. Unfortunately, America did not learn from its first mistake and continued to repeat it six more times. Let\'s hope this is the last time America allows fraud to enter into its mortgage-backed securities industry.

We certainly do not want to turn America into a socialist regime where the government has a hand in running everything - from healthcare to the auto industry. We need to find ways to strengthen private enterprise. When money is tight there needs to be more mutual collaboration efforts between individual businesses to lift each other up. Want an example? Watch an Apple TV commercial. There you have what appears to be two competitors taking shots at each other in a TV ad. But, whenever an iMac is purchased as a result of that commercial, Microsoft makes money due to the cross-lincensing agreement which places the Windows OS on the iMac computer. Bottom line, mutual collaboration is a win/win strategy that really does work. - lamar

3 million workers

It was not 3 million auto workers and I don\'t know that anyone has a good number but it is huge. It is the suppliers of parts of various kinds, dealerships and their employees. When I think of all the vendors whose bills get paid thru Cadillac Motor Car in Detroit when I worked in accounts payable back at the turn of the century and the bills I pay, insurance, UPS, Fed Express, Insurance of all kinds, computer systems and support, office supplies, heat, light. It goes on and on....but the worst is the loss of the huge taxes paid across this nation that allow for the cities and counties to balance their budget and improve our lifestyes. Do we really want to have no American manufacturing
of Autos? And don\'t tell me they arent up to par because they are.
This Nation welcomes all countries to bring their products here. We gave V.W. 25M to build in the south and free land and no unions this past year. Sweden gave Volvo and Saab a 28 Million dollar loan to get them thru this recession published last week in Automotive news. I could go on and on regarding the loans going out from other countries to support their industies but I need my morning coffee!!!! - kathy fowler
