When we had to put down our dog, I could not stop crying for days. I know Luke had many people with him, so he would not be alone. \"Gary Bazzano of Middletown\" I hope some day you don\'t find yourself with hip problems and alone somewhere ignored. I fell in love with Whiskey in the first picture and this one. I have seen Pits with loving temperments; it\'s the handlers that can cultivate the mean in ANY dog....

We need to make our laws strict on animal cruelty, screw a misdermeaner what a slap on the wrist and money to pay over time NoNo No....Jail...FELONY on your record, so when you apply for a job it aks if you have had a felony YES...these Loosers need to learn a lesson and a slap on the wrist and a fine will not do it, Pitbulls and German Shepard are fantastic dogs and this should have never happened if it were a felony do you think it would have happened??? Unless they are just people that have been loosers for life! I wish someone would have called in for Luke sooner, SHAME on anyone that seen him in this condition last month or the month before that  and did not turn this looser in! - shellyc

Pitbull Love

I always hear haw pitbulls are so vicious and all round bad dog. Look at poor Whiskey after everything that dog has been throw she still trust and loves humans. If I was left for dead after being hit by a truck I would be full of hate. I think most people are more vicous than any pitbull. Come on people if there really is a vicous breed out there it is not pitbulls, hear is a hint it walks on two legs. - Dogman

It is funny. Every one thinks pitbulls are nothing but trouble. Bread to fight and all round vicious dogs. After everything that poor dog has been throw she still trust humans. After reading this artical I think I have more vicious bones in my body than any so called killer pitbulls! - Dogman

Expensive VET CARE!!!

The veterinary hospital I go to, Wasson Memorial, charges 44$ to euthanize a dog. If people can\'t afford this, when their pet is dying, then they shouldn\'t own animals. How much does a pack of cigarettes cost? dog food? tank of gas? No one needs to sympathize with these losers for not ending their dog\'s suffering. - jmadison

Poor babies!!!

I have a real hard time with accepting any justification or excuse for these creeps not getting help for these two dogs! Sometimes people are in a bind financially and may not be able to afford an operation or extensive veterinary care... and if that is so, the kind thing to do is then surrender the dog to Animal Control... and when they can, Animal Control does try to help animals. Luke is definitely in a better place than with these people! And hopefully a foster home will be found real soon for Whiskey until he is ready for adoption. I can\'t believe this sort of treatment is not a felony!!! I think a judge can order that they not own pets for a number of years tho... but people who do this should not have animals to begin with or be allowed to ever have pets again. I hope the judge that gets this case will give them the maximum penalties! I recently had to have my 15 year old cat put down due to failing kidneys... and it was done in a very humane way at the new Animal Control facility... they were respectful of me and my cat... it was very difficult for me to make the decision, but her time had come and a decision had to be made. People do have a choice.. doing the humane thing no matter how hard it is on YOU is not easy... but in the end you can rest easier knowing that you did what was needed for your pet. Even a simple phone call to Animal Control by these people would have given them some options and/or suggestions in dealing with the dogs if they couldn\'t take care of them or didn\'t want to take care of them anymore. What a shame!!! At least poor Luke spent his last days being fed and cared for in a safe environment... and Whiskey too has had good care now and a chance at a new life... - chrizzy

I totally agree but it never seems to happen. Too many people let stuff like this slide. I personally have given a few people my opinion when the do NOT treat their animals well. More people should - Momster50

A little justice might me meted out if local shop owners just refused to offer services to these people. A good old fashioned shunning and public humiliation goes a long ways. - kd006

Poor Luke, murdered by a heartless soul.
Good luck to Whiskey with new owners and lets hope these folks are prevented from pet ownership for some time just as hackers can be barred from getting near computers.
Sickening that killing an animal can be a misdemeanor while exploratory hacking can be a victimless felony. - lcnewsadmin

Whiskey is such a cutie. It would be wonderful if someone that is in need of a companion could adopt her. I\'m sure she will make a loving friend to whomever is able to care for her. It is a shame about Luke, but, he\'s now in animal heaven and feels no pain. I\'m truly sickened to think people could treat a poor innocent animal this way. Animals and children depend on us to take care of them, they have no one else. If you don\'t have the ability to do this, you should not have either one! - vickilynn

for Luke. That poor baby. At least he is not in pain anymore.

And Whiskey, He looks so adorable. I have two dogs of my own, one a pit. They can be so sweet if the owner treats them right. I wish the previous owners could get major jail time for this, but again, that is wishfull thinking. I would love to adopt Whiskey, but with two other dogs already I don\'t think I could. I sure hope he gets a really good home with LOTS of love.

Thank you so much animal control and the Veterinary hospitals that helped Whiskey.

job! Frustration, heartbreaking and yes, incredibly rewarding.

I\'d love to bump that one up to a felony...might have an impact?

Can these idiots turn right around and get another animal? If so, I would like to see changes regarding this also....

Beginning with financial restitution, followed with manditory hours of service at our new shelter, followed with classes set up by our shelter staff for abusers of animals. Then and only then could the individual apply for a permit to be in possession of another animal. They would also have to pay to have mthly checks via animal control for the first year that an animal was in their possession!

How\'s that? - lenny

to see the names of the dirty deed doers. Oh, excuse me, alleged dirty deed doers  Hard to believe that such vile behavior is only a misdemeanor. I assume ACC is looking for a foster home to help Whiskey get well enough to be adopted and not placed back in her former abusive environment - or is there a chance these miscreants will get her back? Poor Luke - he looks like he was a big love bug. Thanks to all who are taking/took such good care of these two critters. - Donna Christopher
