Paper Tiger

All the bemoaning in the world is not going to change the fact that the Grand Jury is only a paper tiger.

The Grand Jury needs to not only be charged with the power but the responsibility to indict those they believed have done illegal acts. Yes; Gary Lewis should have been indicted for what was admitted to have been a miss use of public trust; let alone public funds; in with regards to his use of his county paid for cell phone for personal use.

As it stand now only the District Attorney has the power to indict; diminishing the Grand Jury to nothing more than an advisory board; with no one having to take the Grand Jury seriously, not the County of Lake Board of Supervisors; not the District Attorney nor the Sheriff; matter of fact none of the elect officials here in the County of Lake have any real oversight. If we want a more transparent government then it is time to empower the Grand Jury with the power and responsibility to indict!

The the_Lakeport_corporate_paper and the Lake County News need to be relentless in calling for this change; in my humble opinion. - get smart

All I did was read the article. I did not type any comments, nor do I care to do so. I\'m not sure why someone else\'s comments are attributed to me, but I prefer to reserve any judgments as I know no more information than what was in the article.

Hopefully the comment section can be fixed. It looks as if this has been a problem in the past as well. - ShellBell

the Office of Education even exists. Now I know, to give the Grand Jury some demons to exorcize. What a waste of time, money and space. They\'ve been hiring unqualifieds for a loooong time - glad the GJ is looking under this rock. - Donna Christopher

the agency? Huh? You guys didn\'t think those interviews would turn into reports? I said from the get-go Geck would be more of the same old crap, looks like that\'s how it\'s shaking out. Sure would be nice if the GJ coughed-up the name of the person hired without the bona fides, that stuff should be public info, just like when they left Gary Lewis\'s name out of the report that showed he had been stealing from the public a few years ago (for the second time).
At least this committee got something done, it should be fun to hear what that doofus Geck has to say about the continuation of the scandelous Corneilson era-type sloth and abuse, good timing with the vacation David! - smurf
