in places where grown-ups run law enforcement they don\'t chase stolen cars through densly populated areas-this is department policy anywhere in the bay area.
Golly, they threw drugs out the window? Another major crime worth killing someone over? When are you people going to realize that the police are human beings too, which means they do stupid things sometimes that other people should persuede them not to?
Sometimes they lie and sometimes they steal, and sometimes they act like pricks-just like real people! Stop acting like they are deities and accept the fact that it is occasionally correct to critisize them! - smurf

its called insurance. Human beings - not so much on the replaceable aspect. forcryingoutloud makes a very good point, if these women warranted a chase thru town at 120 mph you\'d think the peeps in the hood would warrant a heads up. - Donna Christopher

You don\'t know have a clue! You don\'t know what you are talking about and you don\'t know the circumstances. Police bashing again smurf! I happen to think that people that steal vehicles are criminals and perhaps the items they were seen throwing out of the vehicle were also illegal. Maybe they would have continued their crime spree to your neighborhood if not intercepted by the CHP. The driver getting away will only be a temporary thing. Have some faith! - gabby

no big city allows high speed chases anymore, unless it\'s a kidnapping or some other VERY special circumstance-it isn\'t done for stolen trucks. The reason for that is WAY too many innocent civilians have been killed or maimed by the cops or the supects, PUBLIC SAFETY COMES BEFORE RETRIEVING STOLEN TRUCKS! What would you people be saying if someone got killed in this incident-would it STILL have been a good idea?
Only in places where cops and cowboys are the same thing this sort of thing happens, and what the hell is the point of chasing someone at 120 mph if they can\'t do anything when they stop, what kind of cops are we paying for that can\'t chase down a couple of girls on foot? To heck with the shooting range, get some of these lard butts to go to the gym once in a while! - smurf

Great job on law enforcements part! This is what they are trained to do. I\'m sure if conditions would have been different, different decisions would have been made. It\'s not all that easy to get spike strips down when you are behind the vehicle folks. It takes others to be in the right place at the right time. I\'m glad they chased them. Criminals need to know they are going to be chased and maybe caught. Obviously there was more going on then we seem to know in this article. Can\'t get all of them all of the time. Hats off to all involved. Keep after them! Great driving!! - gabby

I hope they find the people responsible. I live about a block and a half away from the fairgrounds, and heard the gigantic ruckus at about 9:30 or so. I just figured it was more sheriff officers turning their sirens on the moment they leave the parking lot on Martin. Happens all the time.

But nobody came and asked us to be on the look out for suspicious subjects -- and that\'s something that I personally would expect done when desperate folks like the ones that started this thing are looking for a hiding place in the immediate area. Like I said, we\'re pretty close to the fairgrounds on Martin Street.

Where were the dogs? They\'ve got search dogs, did they use them?

I wish they\'d release more information. - ohforcryingoutloud

It\'s a legitimate question. I hate to see lawbreakers get away with their irresponsible behavior. Losers like that are often high or drunk, and almost never are thinking of the consequences of their actions (the definiton of a loser). But a high speed chase through a highly populated area is not good law enforecement policy anymore. Why couldn\'t that vehicle be tracked by helicopter? If no helicopter is available, spike stips along the hwy could be used. Since the pickup had been pursued from a long distance, could the strips have been used earlier? I don\'t know all of the details of this chase, but spike strips should be used as soon as a chase seems to be happening. Bottom line - 120 mph through Lakeport could have been a disaster. Glad it wasn\'t. Hope the perps are caught, nailed, and other bad things happen to them. And thanks to the cops for risking their lives to make these cretins have to face up to the fact we all have to live on this crowded planet together - so behave, goddammit! - tom

Ginny and Smurf - Wake up, this is the real world! I guess that you think that our officers should just sit there and twiddle their thumbs while watching law breakers??

Tell me, who should they pursue? What if the truck had a kidnapped child? Committed a murder someplace? Maybe since you are such experts, you should go to the courthouse and re-write the entire book on law enforcement!!

I cannot believe such childish and ignorant comments, or maybe you both are children just trying to be smart?

in the civilized world PD\'s don\'t do high speed chases anymore, not for stolen trucks anyway. Was it worth it? Someone could have been killed and both the perps got away, seems like not risking people\'s lives over a stolen truck is more important than catching a couple of thieves.
I got in a bad accident once because of a cop running a red light to pull over a truck with a broken license plate light, sometimes it\'s just not worth it. i don\'t have much respect for the officers involved, bad call on the chase and exactly what\'s the excuse for getting the slip from a couple of girls? - smurf

Well it WAS an hour later and NO, nobody was hurt. It could have been worse.
With the budget cuts being talked about in Lakeport, there may have been NO Police involvement, and you probably would have been moaning, \"Where is a Cop when you need one\"?
Get over it! No one was hurt and the Police,Deputies and CHP were doing the Job they were hired to do! :!: - BlackMagic

It was 9:30pm when 3 police cars came roaring down our quiet North Main st. neighborhood, obviously chasing the truck. I\'m glad it wasn\'t an hour earlier when our kids may have been outside riding their bikes. I hope it was worth more than a stolen truck and a few women\'s handbags. Trust me, this was a very dangerous situation. - Ginny
