OK the other news reported about 6K for mailings and reprinting pamphlets, then 100K for floating signs!

How about taking action NOW, rent steam cleaners from somplace, decontaminate every bloody boat, watercraft etc that enters the lake and have done with it?

OH NO Mr. Bill, Sluggo says wait, let\'s have another meeting and appoint a committee to look into the feasibility of doing this.

I love the fools who run this place. - kd006

the Chamber of Commerce needs to provide some verifiable information, not vague assurances.

* How many dollars per year do the fishing tournaments bring in to Lake County?

* How many of those dollars stay here and what percentage of the population benefits?

* What is the cost of policing the lake during fishing tournaments, cleaning up after the tournaments and protecting the wildlife?

* Exactly what are the tournament operators prepared to do to protect the lake? How much are they prepared to spend? This is a legitimate cost of doing business for any business which benefits. - patsy

Great article about a hugely important issue.
If properly educated and motivated, the public could be enlisted to save the lake and the economy. During and post-Katrina, I concluded, \"Oh -- so THAT\'s how we\'re going to be \"helped\" by the \"experts\". We need to help ourselves, and we\'ll need education, pictures everywhere, and a public campaign to get us all out to the lake and look - alot - to be effective. - shannon9166

I never said close the lake, I said it\'s an option that should be considered IF they county counldn\'t get the decontamination stations set up in a reasonable amount of time, and even then it would only apply to non-local boats.
Also, the presentation was like watching dumb and dumber, Francis said the Quagga were probably here, her coworker Rattan said they weren\'t. Neither knew anything about decontaminating boats and apparently even getting a sign put up at the busiest boat launch the county owns was too much to get done in just a few months-so much for the educational outreach!
thank God Rushing got this back on the radar screen, any more dithering and it would certainly be too late. The chamber of commerce should be leading this charge, but instead they\'re doing their best to take the shortest view possible, since it\'s the easiest and follows their \"more for us and worry about the concequences later\" mentality. - smurf
