getting together at
Kapitans is a great idea. I\'ll be there. My husband and I went walking at 11:30 pm last night and just as we came up to Alpine oark, we saw 2 teenagers on bikes cross 20 and go into the park. We called the Sheriff and waited. The boys were there about 1/2 an hour then left before the sheriff did his drive by. Thet evidently lived on second as they dissapeared very quickly. If more of us would take evening walks or drives we may be able to get the vandels. - cmmanley

Citizens Patrol

Yes, we did have a town meeting regarding the graffiti and vandalism last November. 37 people attended the first meeting and signed in. I then called everyone on the sign in sheet afterwards tho it took some time as I was waiting for additional information from the original Citizens Patrol. Of the 37 called I got affirmative responses from 15 folks. Of those only 3 were interested in Citizens Patrol, the rest were only interested in Neighborhood Watch. An additional 3 folks were willing to donate money for more Neighborhood Watch signs. There is a little red checkmark by your name John so you were contacted. I honestly don\'t recall who I actually talked with or just left messages to with a please call back request, but the check mark tells me I tried. The 3 that were willing to do Citizens Patrol were already members of the Citizens Patrol, 2 of those are very senior citizens and the other works 12 hours days in Ukiah. I have all the contact info here if anyone would like it. No one has to be part of any organization to give a damn about their community. You don\'t need a Neighborhood Watch sign to watch your Neighborhood. Citizens Patrol up and running again would be wonderful. Caveat - the Powers That Be just don\'t say ok cause you want to be part of it. There is training and background checks that need to be done. I think that is where I lost many folks who had expressed interest. And catching our little \"artist in training\" seemed to take the urgency out of getting something up and going. New crisis, renewed interest. If someone wants to grab the ball and run with it they are welcome to the info I have and I will assist as much as I am able to. And I know you will get much assistance from those that are still left of the original group. If you need more info many of the original group gets together about 9-9:30 a.m. at Kapitans daily, Leroy can fill you in. - Donna Christopher

among the citizenry seems appropriate. What we report may not only solve our (yes, I said OUR) vandalism problems, it may also serve to turn around some naughty folks who are presently on the wrong path. I know it sounds Polly-Annish, but some people do only need to learn that certain actions lead to certain consequences, and they straighten right up. As for the others...they deserve what they get. - George J. Dorner

About 7:45PM yesterday I was driving by the park after hearing the news about the vandalism. Two individuals I recognized as locals were sitting comfortably drinking their 40 ouncers in full view of HWY 20. Summation, forget the Sheriff!
I got out of my car and spoke with them about the vandalism. They too are pissed (real pissed!) and will pass word along to their social network!! - lenny

I\'m in. I love my parks and what they do for my town, I\'m willing and able to swing by at odd hours.
We could have a name for the group like the harbor park irregulars or something.
I went to one of these meetings re: community patrol and haven\'t heard a word since. - jjensen

How sad

That this is happening, although I am embarrassed to admit it is not a surprise. 200k for a bathroom is a bit surprising, and at that price one would hope it would be graffiti resistant. Perhaps a shift change of a parks person to a late shift that encompasses checking the parks after hours. Routes and parks changing so there is no set routine that can be watched out for. Cameras would work until they are noticed then they would be gone or also vandalized. I know it is too much to ask that parents actually raise their children properly and not leave them to be feral. - Donna Christopher

We should get together with Sheriff\'s Dept and reactivate the citizens patrol. I\'m sure there are a lot of people in Lucerne concerned about the vandelism and increased burgleries in Lucerne that would volunteer. How can we get it started again. I\'ll gladly volunteer to patrol. - cmmanley

In light of the ongoing stupidity of some people perhaps it is time to install cameras as part of the upgrades. - yellowwing
