I can understand fear and to be safe, your safety concerns is noted. The wish I would have, is that same concern about the rapist, pedophiles and the harm this local government have done over the Dinius case was addressed with the same passion. There is far more harm from those than from fireworks. - James

Amazing

I find it terribly amazing that people such as smurf et al comment on an issue that belongs to the folks that live with in the city limits. Additionally, the personnal attacks disgust me to no end. This is a decision put to the voters. I happen to have many years of experience in the fire service, and my position on this measure would surprise some, however, one must remember that the first responsibility of fire service folks is the prevention of unwanted fires. The stance of the fire chief should be the restriction of fireworks. Remember the Hidden Valley Fire. Thanks You - Toad

Lake County purchase those fireworks. I'm sure if a census were taken at the time of the sale the vast majority would be tourists. How do they get contacted to make a donation for which they get nothing in return? When they buy those S&S they contribute to a community not their own. Even if you had every name and address can you imagine the cost of a mass mailing asking for donations to all those non-residents? - Donna Christopher

Forty Years?

Thought the fireworks sales started in the 90s. That doesn't exactly equal forty years, but what difference does it really make? The FACT is that if people donated money directly to the youth groups, you'd really BE supporting the youth groups. They wouldn't be giving half the money to a fireworks company!

No wonder they're putting so much money into overturning an ordinance that helps protect the community.

PLEASE continue supporting the worthwhile non-profits in our community, by donating directly to the organizations themselves. We can support these groups without putting the rest of us at risk. - Bea

Their is not any issue presented or voted on that is not directly related to some "special interest".

The fact an issue is presented for discussion makes it someones special interest.

So remember, when you hear someone shout out, "hey that group is a special interest", the person yelling it is also representing a special interest. - bearer

Aren't they all special interests?

At least the people in Lakeport get to vote on it, usually the 'special interests' get assuaged behind closed doors by the politicians said interests have purchased. - Donna Christopher

Special Interest Measure?

The measure and vote shouldn't be about "helping four nonprofit community groups make money to continue to operate." "The four groups are CLHS Boosters, Terrace School PTO, Miss Lake County Scholarship Program and the Lake County Channel Cats Swim Program."

It should be about allowing or not allowing the sale of 'safe and sane' fireworks by ANY qualified group, otherwise this is a special interest measure that should, IMO, be voted against.

and everyone else, unless they want to build a huge, ugly development and have a nice fishing boat to go catch salmon in! Sound familiar Roy? Hey, want do you want from three elderly, self-serving, out-of-touch egomanics?
Bob and Roy never listen to the public, hearings are just a formality because they come to meetings with their minds closed and sealed-their decisions have already been made and can't be changed without resorting to bribery or blackmail. Rumfelt is such a thug he sends his wife out to write a letter against measure C, since it would make him look bad if the public voted to change the idiotic ban on fireworks he and his nitwit cohorts on the council came up with. Ron, Roy and bob really don't care about the public, they've proven that time and time again, none of these petty tyrants should be on the council-they're a disgrace to democracy! - smurf

Right to vote taken away?

I think Ms. Brennan makes a well reasoned argument in favor of Measure C, until she starts complaining about her right to vote being taken away. She had the right to vote for the current City Council. That City Council is charged with running the city. If they didn't decide city issues "on their own" and instead put every issue the city faced on the ballot, we wouldn't need a City Council. The obvious fact is that this issue IS on the ballot, so Ms. Brennan can exercise her constitutional right to vote on it right here in America! - michael95453

Rights?

The only rights we have is how much money we have in our pocket. Then how long we are willing to voice are concerns over those that has a "its a personnel matter" that gives them permission to cover up lies of not only themselves but employees that did not take the oath as them. - James
