I disagree vehemently with the review of WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE. It was by no means a perfect movie, but it powerfully told us the story of how feelings, and relationships, can spiral into destructiveness and harm, even when we don't intend this...usually when we don't intend. Max hurt his mother, and his sister, with his anger. The monsters, especially Carol, did the same. The story is also about how we can get past this hurt and reconcile with those we love. The creatures were so alive, and their sadness so palpable. The book may have been a children's book, but the movie was not really a children's film. It was about childhood, though, and for children and adults, intense feelings can be scary. In the end Max goes home to his mother in joy and without fear, because he knows he loves her and she loves him and the past hurts do not matter. When the credits came on I sat in stunned silence I was so moved. - gwkat
