The Lake County Genealogical Society will meet on Saturday, Sept. 15, at 10 a.m. at the Upper Lake Cemetery, 780 Clover Valley Road. The program will consist of a narrated tour of the historic section of the cemetery, and there will be a demonstration of “grave dowsing.” The tour will include information about the Bear Flag Revolt of 1846, when Americans, including some Upper Lakers, attempted to take California from Mexico. If you have pioneer ancestors in the Northshore area, or are just interested in local history, you are welcome. The society's research library is housed in the Lucerne Visitors Center. Members volunteer in the library Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., and at other times by appointment. The library includes materials on Lake County and many other locales. More information about Lake County genealogy is available online at the CAGenWeb Project, www.cagenweb.com/lake/. The Lake County Genealogical Society welcomes everyone with an interest in family history, whether beginner or expert. For more information about the society, call Sue at 263-5588, email
