Missionary Katherine Parker will speak at the Kelseyville United Methodist Church on Saturday, Nov. 7.

The church is located at 3810 Main St.

A potluck lunch (bring food to share) will be held at noon followed by Parker's presentation.

Parker, a missionary with the board of Global Ministries of the United Methodist Church, serves as part of the Community Health and Agricultural Development (CHAD) Initiative of the Methodist Mission in Cambodia.

Native to California, Parker comes from a family with deep roots in United Methodism on the West Coast. Two grandfathers, a great-grandfather, an aunt and several cousins have served as United Methodist clergy.

She attended Harvey Mudd College in Claremont, where she graduated with a bachelor of science in biology. While in Cambodia she is completing her thesis for a maste's degree, also in biology, from California State University, Sacramento.

Active in the church since childhood, Parker from a young age wanted to be involved in mission work.

In August 2000, after completing college, she began service as a mission intern in the BGM's Youth and Young Adult Program.

Her overseas assignment, as part of that program, was with the Asian Rural Institute in Nishinasuno, Japan. After 15 months Parker returned to the US to serve with the Practical Farmers of Iowa in Ames. She completed her mission intern service in May 2003.

Parker's home church is Mt. Tamalpais United Methodist Church in Mill Valley.

She has been involved in the life of the church in many ways: serving with the California-Nevada Annual Conference's delegation to General Conference, the conference's Board of Church and Society, the Golden Gate District Council on Ministries, and as a local church volunteer organizing mission trips.

There is no charge for attending the luncheon and presentation, after which a free will offering for Parker’s work will be taken.

This presentation is sponsored by the “LUK United Methodist Ministries” Lower Lake/Upper Lake and Kelseyville United Methodist Churches.
