Poets Reginald Lockett, Karla Brundage, Floyd Salas, Kim Shuck, and author P. Lewis will read from their latest books. There will be a booksigning afterwards. This event is free to the public.

In Reginald Lockett's fourth book of poetry, Random History Lessons, he writes about survival and resilience through personal experience and the testimony of ancestors and family who lived through significant periods in United States history. Karla Brundage collects nearly twenty years of writing in Swallowing Watermelons, her first published collection. She tracks her life experiences as a biracial young woman, a single mother, and an artist activist who has lived in Hawaii, New York City, and Zimbabwe. Nate by P. Lewis was selected as a winner of the twenty-seventh annual American Book Awards for 2006. What is Nate? Or, precisely, just who is Nate, aka Nathan James Morris? He is today's Invisible Man--a young black man in today's America and today's world. Kim Shuck is a mixed Tsalagi, Sauk/Fox and Polish educator, writer and weaver. Her first full length book of poetry, Smuggling Cherokee, won the 2005 first book award from the Native Writer’s Circle of the Americas and was published in December of 2005 by Greenfield Review Press. Award-winning author Floyd Salas will read from his latest book Love Bites: Poetry in Celebration of Dogs and Cats. A collection of witty, joyful, elegiac, philosophical, fun and moving poems about our furry companions, Love Bites is illustrated with whimsical line drawings by the author. So, cock up your heels, and listen to poetry written largely about rescue animals.
