If you or someone you know owns a horse or is thinking about buying one (and doesn't have much acreage to keep it on), there's a free workshop on Saturday, February 24th that may be of interest. Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) is putting on a "horse keeping" workshop, and it should be a good one. It's at the Fire Station in Middletown at 21095 Hwy 175. They need to know how many folks are coming, so if you decide you want to attend, call 263-4180 x15 and leave a message. There's limited space available, so don't put off making the phone call. Upper Putah Creek Stewardship is hosting the workshop, with additional sponsorship coming from NRCS, East Lake and West Lake RCDs, the Lower Lake Watershed Council, and the Upper Cache Creek Watershed Alliance. The morning will start with Jeff Smith, DVM, talking about horse care. Other topics being presented will be pasture management, conservation planning, mud & manure management, and fire safety. There's a whole lot more to owning a horse than just jumping on and going for a ride! |
